LONE GOOSE FARM TOURS
This is more than a farm tour – it’s an invitation to slow down, feel closer to the land and the stories behind your food.
Indulge in the very best of Tasmania’s farming, food and wine culture.
Tours run seasonally and are limited to three small group tours per week.

December – April
We run a small number of farm tours during the warmer months, when we have plenty of ducklings and the farm is at its best.
On the tour you’ll:
-
Walk the farm with us and learn how our ducks are cared for at each stage of life
-
Hold a duckling and give our Jersey cows a scratch
-
Spend unhurried time outdoors with the animals and the people who care for them
Tours are intentionally limited to just three per week, keeping group sizes small and the experience unhurried.

Stay for lunch
After the tour, you’re welcome to stay on and enjoy a relaxed lunch by the dam and experience living at Lone Goose Farm.
Our grazing board happily feeds two people and showcases some of our favourite produce from the island.
We are licensed, so you can enjoy a bottle of wine whilst you graze away. Again, we’ve chosen some of our favourite Tasmanian wines – we might just have a glass with you.
Platters and wine are paid for on the day, just let us know when you book if you’re planning on staying.
Tasmanian Special Liquor Permit No. 103052
Under the Liquor Licensing Act 1990 it is an offence: For liquor to be delivered to a person under the age of 18 years; For a person under the age of 18 years to purchase liquor

A few practical things to know before your visit.
What time do the tours start?
Tours begin at 11.30am.
We ask that guests arrive by 11.15am so we can take care of boot washing and biosecurity together before heading out.
What should I wear?
Tours take place on a working farm, so enclosed, sturdy footwear is required. You’ll be asked to use footbaths for biosecurity reasons, so please avoid water-sensitive or precious shoes.
Our tours are exclusively outside so please wear and bring what you need to stay warm, dry or sun safe -it’s Tassie after all.
Is the farm accessible?
We do our very best to make the farm as accessible as possible for all guests. That said, this is a working farm and the tour includes uneven ground, slopes, gravel, livestock and open water.
If you have any specific accessibility needs or questions, please get in touch before booking — we’re always happy to talk it through and see how we can help.
What should I know about safety on the farm?
This is a working farm environment, and we’ll guide you through the experience with safety in mind. We ask that guests follow instructions from farm staff and avoid touching animals, machinery or equipment unless invited to do so. Children must be supervised by a responsible adult at all times.
we love our ducks
Lone Goose Farm started with the belief that a love of food, a desire to treat animals humanely, and a need to look after the land meant slower farming practices.
We’re Bec and Paul.
When we met in 2010, we’d always dreamed of living in the country – growing our own food, farming something and being part of a connected community – but we didn’t exactly know what that would look like.
After looking all over Tasmania, we finally found our new home – a 120-year-old farmhouse on 50 acres with views of the Western Tiers. In 2019 we left corporate life in Melbourne, moved to Birralee and Lone Goose Farm began.

We experimented with different breeds before choosing to raise Muscovy ducks, simply because they felt right for our farm and our approach. They’re not the most commercially viable birds – they take longer to mature than many mass produced breeds and lay fewer eggs – but we love that they are quiet, have great personalities and how well they fit into a pasture-based system.
We really believe in acting in the best interests of our animals – seeing them out on fresh grass, foraging and growing slowly is very rewarding. We’ve chosen to stay deliberately small and hands-on, from running our own breeding flock to delivering our ducks to our chefs.
Why are we called Lone Goose Farm?

Why are we called Lone Goose Farm?
When we arrived at the farm, the only animal here was a lone goose. She took one look at us and promptly flew away. But then she started coming back day after day so we named her Gayle. Initially she kept her distance but over time she became part of daily life on the farm, trusting us and guarding our ducks. Hence our namesake.
Trusted by Tasmania’s chefs
We grow pasture-raised Muscovy ducks exclusively for Tasmanian restaurants who value a strong connection to local, ethically grown, seasonal produce.
Our ducks are available March to September.
